Sister Cecile Cloutier, s.c.o.

Sister Cecile Cloutier, 88, a Sister of Charity of Ottawa for 69 years, died at Tufts Medical Center in Boston, on August 29, 2021.  Born in Lowell, MA she was the daughter of the late Albert and Laura (Demers) Cloutier.

Sister Cecile was educated in Lowell, MA. at St. Joseph School and St. Joseph High School.  She taught briefly in Haverhill and Lowell from 1952-1958.  She pursued her LPN studies at the former Holy Ghost School of Nursing in Cambridge, MA and served in a nursing role at D’Youville Senior Care Center, from 1960 – 1967, and again in 1970 – 1980. From 1967 – 1969, she worked as a nurse at a nursing home in Opelousas, LA.  She assumed responsibility for the Sisters’ retirement home in Lowell from 1981-1996.  She returned to D’Youville Senior Care in Social Services from 1997-2005.  In 2005, she became the director of the Bachand Hall Residence for young women aging out of foster care, in partnership with the Department of Children and Families.  From 2010, she hosted a weekly AA meeting at Bachand Hall, continuing a decades-long ministry.

She is survived by one sister-in-law: Jacqueline Cloutier of Lowell, a brother-in-law, Donald Thibault of Florida, as well as several nieces and nephews, and many friends.  She was predeceased by her siblings and their spouses: Albert (Irene) Cloutier, Leo (Madeleine) Cloutier, Raymond (Dorothy) Cloutier, William (Blanche) Cloutier, Louis (Lucille) Cloutier, Doris (Simon) Carbonneau, Robert Cloutier, Lorraine Thibault, Gerald Cloutier.

Relatives and Friends will be received at the TYNGSBOROUGH FUNERAL HOME, 4 Cassaway Drive, Tyngsborough, on Friday, Sept. 3, from 3 to 7 p.m.  Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday morning at 10 a.m. in the Parish of Saint Rita, 158 Mammoth Rd., Lowell.  Committal prayers and burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Chelmsford.  For online condolences or directions, please visit www.tyngsboroughfuneralhome.com.
