Lawrence "Larry" Lafortune Obituary

Lawrence F. “Larry” Lafortune, age 73, passed away June 9, 2022, at University of Florida Shands Hospital in Gainesville, Florida, where he received outstanding care.  He had been in a period of declining health since major heart surgery in early 2021, and had some underlying health issues.

He grew up next to a dairy in Dracut, MA, attended Dracut Public Schools, went to college at Wentworth Institute and graduated from Fitchburg State Teachers College in 1970.  After college Larry taught mechanical drawing and industrial arts at Salem NH High School.

Prior to moving to Chiefland, FL in 2007 Larry had a small farm in Pelham, NH, with a big vegetable garden, chickens and his horse Jessie.  He was an expert carpenter and built a large garage, two additions to homes in NH and crafted furniture. After moving to Florida, he mastered the art of stained glass, giving pieces to friends and St. Albans Episcopal Church that he attended.

Larry was predeceased by his parents Antonio A. Lafortune and Helen E. (Taylor) Lafortune, as well as aunts and uncles.  He was previously married to Margaret “Peg” Prendeville and Claudette Lesperance.  He is survived by his brother David T. LaFortune of Lowell, MA, and Ogunquit, ME and his loving and devoted best friend of many years Patsy Allbrittan of Lake City, FL, and cousins.

According to his wishes, there will be no visitations.  Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Committal Service on Friday, June 17, at 11:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Cemetery Chapel in Chelmsford, MA.
