John L. Durkin Jr.

 

NASHUA – John L. Durkin Jr., age 72, a resident of Nashua, passed away peacefully on July 28, 2021, at the Community Hospice House in Merrimack, NH, with his family by his side. He was the loving husband of Denise M. (Maille) Durkin to whom he had been married to for 25 years.

Born in Lowell on January 8, 1949, he was the son of the late John L. and Mary (Hickey) Durkin, Sr.  He received his early education in the Lowell school system and was a graduate of Keith Academy.

John was employed at Courier Citizen for many years before becoming a Court Officer for the State of Massachusetts, having worked at the Lowell District Courthouse for over 30 years. 

He enjoyed a successful football career that proceeded the interests of his sons.  He also loved to travel and spent many hours with his wife, Denise, at their happiest place, Cape Neddick (Nubble) Lighthouse at York Beach, ME.  His treasured Bishon, Benji, always at his side, made the hardest days easier.

Surviving him are his children, John L. Durkin III and his wife Holly, with grandchildren Caitlin, Isadora and Arianna.  Thomas Durkin and his wife Sheryl, with grandchildren Delaney and Casey.  Kaitlin Durkin with grandson Malachi and partner Kerri. David Ouellette and his wife Patricia, with grandchildren Ashley, Brittney and Sarah.  Jason Ouellette and his wife Kristin, with grandchildren Amber, Alyssa, Paige and Callie.

And his great-grandchildren: Braelyn, Wyatt and Finley

He is also survived by Betty Durkin, mother of Jackie, Tommy and Katie, a sister Moira and husband Fred, Marguerite (Margie) and husband Glenn, a brother Thomas (Tipper) and wife Kathleen (Kitsy) and many nieces and nephews. 

His sisters-in-law Dolly and husband Mickey, Linda and husband Chuck, Pauline Maille and her companion John, Diane and husband Al Mavrogeorge, and brother-in-law Peter Straggas and many nieces and nephews.  also a dear family friend, Gayle (McAndrews) Rua.

He was the brother of the late Marci Durkin.  He was also predeceased by his sister-in-law Priscilla Straggas.
