Dr. Gary John Witts D.M.D
NASHUA – Gary John Witts D.M.D, age 63, resident of Nashua, passed away at his home on Saturday, February 8, 2020 after a courageous and hard-fought battle with cancer. He was the loving husband of Laura (Hockett) Witts to whom he was married for 30 years.
Born in Lowell on August 6, 1956, he was a son of Frederick J. and Patricia A. (Tetro) Witts of Lowell.
Gary received his early education in Lowell, MA. He went on to graduate from the University of Lowell where he earned a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science, followed by a D.M.D. from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine.
He was a very successful and admired dentist having owned and operated his own practice in Acton, MA for many years.
Gary was a member of several medical associations including the Academy of General Dentistry, the Massachusetts Dental Society and the American Dental Association.
He, together with his wife, were also active members of the American Kennel Club having bred, raised, shown and then finished seven AKC champions. One of his greatest accomplishments was winning Winner’s Bitch and Best of Winners at the largest Labrador Retriever Specialty competition in the world with his yellow female yellow Meg. Gary also enjoyed spending time at home and in his yard with family and his dogs.
Surviving him in addition to his wife and parents are a son, Steven J. Hartwell of Salem, MA; four brothers, Dennis Witts and Cynthia Shumsky of Atkinson, NH, Bruce and Martina Witts of Naples, ME, Randall Witts and Julie Farmer of Chelmsford, MA and Jeffrey Witts and Gina Raphanella of Lowell, MA; his mother-in-law, Helen Smith of Brentwood, NH; a brother-in-law, Howard Hockett of Brentwood, NH, many nieces and nephews; and many dear friends within the dental community and the AKC.
Relatives and friends will be received at the TYNGSBOROUGH FUNERAL HOME, 4 Cassaway Dr., Tyngsborough on Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. Funeral Thursday morning with a Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 10 a.m. in St. Mary Magdalen Church, 95 Lakeview Ave., Tyngsborough, MA. Burial will follow in Pepperell Cemetery, Park St., Pepperell. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, P.O. Box 849168, Boston, MA 02284-9168.
