Charlotte Jones, age 78, a former resident of Tyngsborough, passed away on Friday, June 18, 2021, after a lengthy illness.

Charlotte was a beloved mother and friend who was an introspective, sensitive, devoted Christian. A humble woman, she was quick to appreciate the gifts of others but seemingly unaware of her own many talents and contributions. She was generous, with a passion for helping people and all living creatures. Always quick to laugh at herself, Charlotte attracted and delighted others with her infectious laughter. She had a deep love for animals and enjoyed nature, sports, music, dance, art, and Skyping with her sisters overseas. She will be immensely missed and loved forever.

Born in Mannheim, Germany in 1943, she was a daughter of the late Georg and Elisabeth Huber.

At 16, Charlotte began playing clarinet and performing as a lead singer in her family’s band. Through performing for US troops, she met and married US army sergeant, Walter Surprenant. Together they moved to NH where they raised their three children. Charlotte enjoyed being an attentive homemaker and also became involved in various spiritual communities. She continued singing and learning to play new instruments.

Deeply influenced by her faith, she returned to Germany to expand upon her Christian-missionary work in the mid-80s, where she remained for 12 years before returning to the US.

Charlotte is survived by two sons, John (wife Kathryn) Surprenant of Hudson, NH, and Paul Surprenant of Merrimack, NH; a daughter, Christine (wife Bernadine) DiChiara of Merrimack, NH; two grandchildren, Jennifer Malette (husband Charles), and Roger Surprenant (fiancée Liz D’Onofrio); two great grandchildren, Sophia and Sebastian Malette; two sisters, Irene Cowen and Irmengard Lorenz, both of Germany; and many beloved nieces, nephews, and dear friends. She was predeceased by her estranged husband, Delbert Jones.

Relatives and friends will be received at the TYNGSBOROUGH FUNERAL HOME 4 Cassaway Dr., Tyngsborough, MA, on Friday, June 25, from 4 to 7 PM.  Her Graveside Service will take place on Saturday, June 26, at 11 AM. at the Pine Grove Cemetery in Kingston, NH.
