Charlotte (Benjamin) Chafe Obituary

Charlotte B. Chafe

Charlotte B. Chafe passed away peacefully at her home at the age of 86 on February 6, 2020.  She was surrounded by her children, Ellen, Jim and Matthew, and grandson Jonathan.  Charlotte had valiantly struggled with Parkinson’s Disease for 15 years.  She was predeceased by her beloved companion Bill (A.W.) Kallmeyer.  Charlotte was a 37 year resident of Tyngsborough and had served on the Town’s Housing Department.

Charlotte leaves three children and two daughters in law, Ellen Wallace of Tyngsborough, Jim Chafe and his wife Jose of Annapolis, MD and Matthew Chafe and his wife Marie of Wayland, MA; seven grandchildren: Jonathan Wallace of Tyngsborough, MA; Nate Chafe and his wife, Samantha, of Odenton, MD; Ben Chafe and his wife Jenny, of Columbia, MD; Tommy Chafe and Zachary Chafe, both of Annapolis, MD; as well as Libby and Emily Chafe, both of Wayland, MA.

Born on September 6, 1933 in Arlington, MA, Charlotte was the third child of Helen (Lister) and Harold Benjamin.  She was predeceased by her parents, and sister Gertrude-Adele and brother Lister.  She grew up on Russell Avenue in Watertown, MA and graduated from Watertown High School, Class of 1951.  She attended the Pierce Secretarial School in Boston, where she met her beloved life long friends, the Forget-Me-Nots, Shirley, Margie, Shirley, June and Joanie.  They enjoyed years of friendship and remain close to this day.

In 2002, Charlotte retired from Agfa Compugraphic Corporation after a successful career in IT Services.  Through her hard work and aptitude for software issues, Charlotte had advanced her career from administrative services to IT technical support.

Charlotte enjoyed needlework, sewing, crocheting, gardening, reading, playing cards and board games, and traveling.  She and Bill loved attending Boston Symphony concerts at Symphony Hall and Tanglewood, and was an annual subscriber to the North Shore Music Theater.  She was devoted to her family, and loved spending time at home surrounded by family members and her family antiques.
