Walter Cantwell Obituary

Walter J. Cantwell

 Loving husband, father and grandfather

TYNGSBOROUGH – Walter J. Cantwell, age 71, a resident of Tyngsborough, passed away suddenly on December 2, 2018, at Tufts Medical Center in Boston, surrounded by his loving family.  He was the beloved husband and best friend of Ann Marie (Desharnais) Cantwell with whom he recently celebrated their 46th wedding anniversary.  Born in Cambridge, MA on July 28, 1947, he was a son of the late Walter J. and Catherine (McLaughlin) Cantwell.

Walter was educated in the Wilmington school system and was a graduate of Wilmington High School. He was an active communicant of St. Rita Parish in Lowell.

Prior to his retirement, he worked as an electrician for Sweetheart Plastics for many years and later as a stockroom manager and driver for Sonic Industries.

Walter was an avid traveler.  He loved his cruises, Las Vegas, Utah, Arizona, South Florida, Hawaii, and many other trips.  To say he was a New England Patriot’s fan is an understatement.  He owned season tickets for 46 years.  He stuck with the team at their worst and even attended a Super Bowl the team appeared in.

Grampa, as he was known by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, was proud of his family and loved spending time with all of them.  He enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s activities and events.

In addition to his loving wife, Ann Marie, are two sons and two daughters-in-law, Steven and Jackie Cantwell of Dracut and Michael and his wife Iveta Cantwell of Windham, NH; two daughters and two sons in law, Patty (Cantwell) Cebula and her husband Greg Cebula of Dracut and Kelley (Cantwell) Dickson and her husband Bill Dickson of Dracut; Christine Chhor (who was like-a-daughter to him) and her husband Phen Chhor of Hudson, NH; eleven grandchildren, Mallorie, Steven Jr. and his wife Valerie, Lexi, Brian, Billy Jr., Katie, Andrew, Timothy, Lukas, Kaelen, Kiana, and two great grandchildren, Christopher and Carter.  He also leaves brothers and sisters in law from the Desharnais family, as well as several nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Dick and David Cantwell and is survived by their families as well.

Cantwell.  Relatives and friends will be received at the TYNGSBOROUGH FUNERAL HOME, 4 Cassaway Dr., Tyngsborough on Sunday afternoon from 2 to 6 p.m. Funeral Monday morning with a Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 11 a.m. in the Parish of Saint Rita, 158 Mammoth Road, Lowell.
