John Garside, Sr. Obituary

John R. Garside Sr.

Owned Elliot’s Famous Hot Dogs

John R. Garside Sr, 88, of Londonderry NH (Formerly of Lowell Ma) died March 3, 2018 peacefully at his home after a brave fight with Cancer. He was the son of John Reginald Garside of England and Harriet Griffith of Lowell Ma.

Born in the Depression Era, John was a determined and hardworking man.  Some of the many lessons he instilled to his children was to make sure that they provided for their families, kept a roof over their heads, and food on the table.

Starting out in life, John held jobs at Mount Pleasant Spring Water and Gene’s Ice Cream of Lowell. In 1966, John purchased Elliot’s Famous Hot Dogs of Lowell, MA and continued to operate it until his retirement.

John and his loving wife Doris spent many summers camping in the White Mountains of New Hampshire.  They vacationed in Aruba and Florida and later traveled the country in their Winnebago.  Settling on Lake Winnisquam in New Hampshire, John spent his time boating, fishing and enjoying time with his many grandchildren.

Later in life, John continued spending time with his family and made many trips to Pittsburg, NH where he enjoyed riding ATVs, snowmobiles, and the overall peace and serenity of the area.

John is survived by his lifelong love and wife of 68 years, Doris (Desroches) of Londonderry, NH and their 6 children, Walter J. Garside and wife,  Joellyn (McNulty) of Salem NH, Kenneth R. Garside and wife, Karen (Hurst) of Cape Coral Fl, Sheryll A. (Garside)Dupont and husband Richard of Sanbornton NH, Thomas A. Garside and Susan (Misiaszek) of Londonderry NH, John R. Garside Jr of Sanibel Island FL, and Robert E. Garside and wife Edith (Gosselin)  of New Boston, NH. John will also be missed dearly by his 14 Grandchildren and 9 great Grandchildren.

John also leaves behind his siblings Carl Garside of Westford, MA, Edward Garside of Pepperell, MA, Gertrude Patenaude of Portsmouth, RI, Linda Muller of Reading, VT, and his younger brother Robert Garside of Londonderry, NH, whom he shared a special bond and many laughs.

He was predeceased by his brothers Walter Garside, Ralph Garside, Alfred Garside, Andrew Garside, Charles Garside and his sisters Eleanor Buckjune, Doris Phelps, and Lillian Soloman.

John will be deeply missed by everyone and we will all remember his most important value of “family first.”
