Hai Vu Obituary

Hai “Henry” Van Vu, age 60, a resident of Westford, died on April 20th at Lowell General Hospital. He was born in Da-nang, Vietnam, to Loi Van Vu and Em Thi Bui. He was the husband of Dieu-Phuong Vu.

Surviving him in addition to his wife are his children, Thien-Chan Vu, Tue Tri Vu and Thien Tri Vu. He was also brother to, Tony Vu, Hung Vu, Dan Vu, Dan Vu, Harry Vu, Tien Vu, Hung Manh Vu, Van Vu, Ly Vu and their spouses and children. He leaves behind both a loving extended family and close friends that he considered family.

He moved to the United States when he was 17 years old, a proud “boat person.” Knowing that education meant survival, he graduated from Stamford High School and continued on to the University of Connecticut where he received a degree in Electrical Engineering.

After his studies, he worked at General Electrics and Raytheon. After a few years of an office job, he realized he had to pursue his entrepreneurial aspirations and opened the computer and electronics store SpeedPC in Acton, Massachusetts. He would eventually be an owner in several different industries with subsequent businesses in furniture design and kitchen cabinetry.

When he wasn’t working, Hai enjoyed listening to music, discussing politics, reading about eastern medicine and philosophy, and had dreams to be a professional gardener. In the winter, he enjoyed spending time next to the fireplace with a good book and his family around him. In the summer, he spent his time almost exclusively outdoors in his garden, on the beach, or at Home Depot.

He was a loving husband to Phuong for 29 years. He grew a whole field of daisies in the corner of the garden for her and could often be found picking out flowers for them to enjoy in their home. He was a devoted father, working around the clock so that his children could pursue a variety of interests including piano, building their own computers, karate, track, hiking, and camping. His children never did share his love for mowing the lawn or weeding the flower beds though.

Hai’s love for his family was evident – not just for his wife and children but his brothers and sisters as well. He will be remembered for his work ethic and his love for family. His friends will remember him by his humor and hearty laugh and his family will remember him as the center of every family function and discussion.
